I focus on dog and puppy training using only positive reinforcement techniques. Positive reinforcement training uses force free methods to motivate your dog into learning new behaviors (cues). The key to positive reinforcement training is rewarding your dog for proper and good behaviors. That is to communicate to your dog when he is doing something right! I will identify the key obedience training motivators that are unique to your dog and use them to create a fun and enjoyable experience for both you and your dog. Training motivator examples may be food, play or social (loving to be petted).
Puppy training can begin at a very young age, typically as early as eight weeks old. But dogs of all ages can enjoy and benefit from obedience training program. Most puppy behaviors such as potty training, mouthing/nipping, jumping, chewing and digging will be addressed as part of the program.
General buckle collars and harnesses are most effective in dog or puppy training along with a standard 4 to 6 foot flat leash. With dogs who are big pullers when walking, a head halter or Easy Walk harness generally prove to be very effective.
Slip, electric shock, prong or pinch collars are NEVER used within My Buddy Positive Dog Training programs.
The most common program is the Puppy or Adult Comprehensive package. This is a six week program where I will come to your home for private lessons. Each class lesson will include a review of prior learned cues and the introduction of new cues.
Not a problem. Just contact me to either reschedule for another day and time during the same week or we can just resume training at the next scheduled class date.
Dogs learn through consistency and practice. A commitment of two to three short 10 minute practice sessions each day will achieve best results.
No. When a dog is first learning a new cue, treats are used more frequently to teach, motivate and reward compliance. But once the cue (behavior) is learned, you will be taught the value of intermittent rewarding and the degree of rewards based on the cue complexity. You will find your dog actually will work harder through the intermittent rewarding system because he will always be trying to figure out how to earn a new treat payout.
There are many variables involved with training your dog, some of which we cannot control. Results are dependent on many things, including your level of commitment and compliance to the recommended program.
I have trained dogs of all sizes, ages, temperament and breeds.
